Odeon Theatre initiated in February 2006 a programme of theatre research entitled Theatre and Society.
The main objectives of this programme were: translating in the theatre language a number of themes and topics of maximum interest and social impact, as well as creating a bond between the contemporary theatre and the civil society.
The programme includes a series of reading performances focusing on the main problems of the contemporary society and also debates that gather a number of sociologists, psychologists or writers.
Odeon Theatre wishes to give an answer through theatre to the problems and changes in the society, bringing together professionals from different fields of activity relevant for the suggested theme.
Development of programme
Odeon theatre organizes a competition for short plays on a certain theme of social interest.
A selection of the most relevant playwrights for a certain theme is made. The selected texts are then staged as a reading performance casting Odeon Theatre`s actors.
The performance is followed by a public debate that has among the guests the representatives of civil society: press, advertising, NGO, legislative organisations, sociologists, artists, teachers and professors.
The programme Theatre and Society is realized in collaboration with the advertising agency McCann Erickson
