French writer and pilot Antoine de Saint-Exupery (June 29, 1900–July 31, 1944) is famous for The Little Prince and the aviation adventure books Night Flight and Wind, Sand and Stars.
Although not entirely autobiographical, much of Saint-Exupery’s work is inspired by his experiences as a pilot. With one exception: The Little Prince, a philosophical story that also includes a critique of society and an emphasis on the strangeness of the adult world.
Saint-Exupery wrote The Little Prince in New York and Asharoken from the second half to the end of 1942. After the book’s publication in 1943, this small volume became the number one best-seller for children.
“I once felt a great need to edit The Little Prince, I don’t know the exact reasons, but I’m sure I identified with someone in the story. And I kept trying to turn the story into theater, but I never succeeded. Not long ago, a very special friend told me that the Odeon Theater is the most elegant theater she has seen and recommended me to put on a show here. I chose The Little Prince because it is the most elegant story I know.
The Little Prince is the parable story of a man who regretfully confesses his loneliness.”
